Empowered Living: Part 2 – What Do You Expect?

These past few days, I keep hearing God say, “Be Expectant”. Everywhere I turn, I keep seeing, and hearing, messages on being expectant. Surely God is about to do something even greater…remember He will do exceedingly abundantly more than all we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), so why hold yourself back?

Bring your hopes back up. Cease to wallow in sorrow, discouragement or defeat. Get back into the Word, and keep it before your eyes, your ears, and your heart…because indeed your time has come for the manifestation of God’s glory. He is about to bring to pass your dreams, your hopes, even those innermost desires you are almost afraid to think of. Know what? God is more than able to bring them all to pass…as long as it brings glory to His holy name.

 

BUT, you must expect it. It is not enough to pray, desire or hope for it, you must also be expectant –“For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” –Proverbs 23:18. Be expectant of good things, expectant of praise-worthy things. It is time to stop expecting the bad, and then saying, “I knew that would end up that way”. Yes it did because that was your expectation. Turn it around, starting NOW, begin to expect only things you really want in your life, good things that will cause men to give glory to God. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” –Philippians 4:8. (NIV)

 

What are the characteristics of being expectant? When you see a person waiting at the bus stop or train station expecting their bus or train, you’ll see them looking in the direction of what they are expecting. They may be doing other things like conversing, or fiddling with their phone, but they’ll keep looking out for their expectation. Likewise if you’re expecting someone, you keep looking out, and at every sound, you are alert, expecting their arrival. What about expecting a baby? You get ready! You are shopping, you are cleaning, you are counting down, you are expectant —any wonder we call it “Expecting”?

 

So arise, take hold of the Word the Lord has given you; and because you know His Word is truth; and because you believe Him, begin to show your expectation. Begin to work on those dreams you have long carried in your “belly” like a baby about to be birthed. Now is the time. Do your part, prepare, start something, start somewhere, make out the time because you will never have the time. You have to make the time. It may not be convenient but the joy of accomplishment is great; and as someone rightly said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”.

Expect the things you have prayed for. Don’t just pray because it’s the “right thing” to do; or because it’s what Christians do. Pray because you believe and know it works and you will get results, because you understand that your prayers will change the spiritual climate, and your situations. What more, when you pray, pray God’s Word, pray His mind, pray His will.

Be Expectant!
