Empowered Living: Part 1 – Power of Praying God’s Word (The Spoken Word)

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: -1 John 5:14

Words

I love to pray with God’s word, because I have seen God move powerfully in response to His word, used in prayers. I have experienced doors open in literally impossible situations. I have seen God move to change hearts and rules through the power of praying His word. Praying God’s word truly move His hands on our behalf!

As Christians, we cannot afford not to pray! Regardless of our status in life, we find a lot of spiritual responsibility placed on us as believers. We often are the ones with the “leading” to pray about something or someone, if we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit; and yet many times we are unsure what or how to pray. When we do pray, many leave the prayer altar with doubts, unsure if God heard them, or if they prayed as they should.

Praying really is not, and should not be, anything complicated. It is not about eloquence or length of time spent. It is not about how loudly or softly we pray. It is simply a heart to heart communication between us and our Heavenly Father.

Praying the Word of God gives us confidence as we approach the throne of God in prayers. It guarantees and assures us that He hears us; because when we pray according to His will, He hears! As we agree with God’s word in prayers, and mix it with faith in His power and ability, we are sure to have answers to our prayers. Let us begin to practice using God’s Word in our prayers. He cannot deny His word, and will always honor His Word.

As we pray using the scriptures, we will begin to enjoy our time of prayers because we know we are praying God’s will; which in turn reinforces our confidence in His power and ability.

Below are sample scriptures we can pray over certain areas of our lives:

For your work/career, here are some scriptures to pray:

  • He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper -Psalm 1:3
  • Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. -Daniel 6:3

As parents, we sometimes worry about our kids. We really don’t need to if we trust them into God’s hands. Here are some scriptures that are great to pray over your children:

  • All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace. –Isaiah 54:13
  • And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: -Deuteronomy 28:13
  • He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. -Psalms 91:1, 10

For the single seeking a partner, here are some scriptures to pray with:

  • God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. –Psalm 68:6
  • Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. –Exodus 23:20

If you are married, you can pray these scriptures over your marriage:

  • Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. –Ephesians 5:33
  • And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. –Colossians 3:14 (NIV)

These scriptures are great to pray for renewal of youth:

  • Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; -Psalm 92:13-14
  • He fills my life with good things, so that I stay young and strong like an eagle. – Psalms 103:5 (GNT)

There are many more scriptures to be discovered in the bible for ALL of life situations. As we spend time in God’s word, the Holy Spirit will guide us to the right scriptures to pray. I have also included some scriptures on this website for different life situations, and will be adding more.

  1. Thank you for the reminder that prayer is not meant to be complicated. I think of prayer as having a friendly conversation with my most trusted advisor. The scriptures to pray over specific areas in our lives are much appreciated =)

Thanks Summer. You’re so right, that is really what prayer is. He certainly is our “most trusted Advisor” – I love that 🙂
