Happy New Year!
It’s that time of the year when many make resolutions, as well as promises to themselves and others. For some, those resolutions were written before the New Year, others wait until the first day of the year.
Some have just a few resolutions listed, yet others have a long list. Whichever it is, many will not remember what these resolutions are, few months into the New Year. Some written resolutions will be nowhere to be found. I know because this was my experience too many times in the past. How about the editing of the previous years’ resolutions, for those that can find it; the crossing out of last year’s date, and re-using it for the new year…let’s just call it the “Revolving Resolution”, – I did that too in the past 🙂
However, this time of the year is also a good time for reflections. Several years ago I decided to do away with resolutions, more out of frustration. Now, I substitute resolutions with what I am believing God for in the New Year, and with a course of action (plan) and deadlines/goals. Why? Because I finally realized it was not solely in my power to change my life and the situations around me. “… For what I want to do I do not do …” –Romans 7:15 (NIV). I needed a higher power to get the things I needed accomplished done! “…without me ye can do nothing.” –John 15:5. That said, it is also irresponsible of me to fold my hands and do nothing because I “have faith”. It is irresponsible to expect God to do all the work for me. He gave me a brain for a reason and gives us ideas and instructions to help get us from where we are to where we desire. So we do have a part to play…we have to “do” what is needed to achieve our goals. “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” –James 2:17 (NIV)
So this New Year:
I am looking forward to greater heights in the new year, with God’s help. I hope you are too. My prayer is that you will be empowered to reach your God-given goals this year.

I too have done away with resolutions but I love your idea of replacing them with reflections that allow God's revelation to be more real in our lives.
